Does Math really work?

3 guys check into a hotel the total price is $30 so each person pays $10.
A little later the clerk realizes that the total charge was actually only $25 so he gives the bellhop $5 to give to the three guys.
They couldn’t figure out how to split the $5 so each guy took $1 and gave the bellhop $2
So each of the three guys ended up spending $9 and the bellhop got $2 what happened to the other dollar?

Just a little brain teaser my wife shared with me tonight thought you might get a kick out of it.

Out of the $30, each man had $1 in his pocket, the bellhop had $2, and the hotel had the remaining $25.
This was a good one . Please let your wife know that it took some time to figure out. Each guy should have kept another .66 a piece because 25/3 equals 8.33. That’s really how much they should have paid a piece for the room.
what other dollar? if they spent $30 and was given back $5, then they were only given back $5.
The total paid was $25 all day long.
if they took $1 each for 3 people, then that is $3. Then the bellhop gets $2. That total is $5 all day long.
now if we want to know how much each of them paid for the room then it is $25/3 which is $8.33 each. But the total is still $25.
each guy should not get an additional .66 each. If they did, then they would not have $2 to pay the bellhop OR they would then owe the hotel $2 and get kicked out.
huh? i don’t see the brainteaser part. gimme a clue…
also, remember that the bellhop kept the $2 and $27-25 = $2.
